This is a question for all my married friends:
My grandmother has given me her lovely circa-1950 wedding dress. It's really awesome, and I want to keep it forever and ever.
Before I got it, it sat for years on her closet shelf inside a hatbox. Right now, it's in my closet in the same hatbox. I know this is a horrible way to store it, and if I leave it there very long, it will get damaged.
So. I'm wondering where I can go in the Springs to have it cleaned and preserved. There are kits you can buy where you box it up and send it away and then they mail it back, but I'd much rather have it done locally. I just don't know where to go, and I don't want to pick just any old place and risk having it ruined. Any recommendations?

I can't say I have a specific recommendation, but I know that most dry cleaners will do this for you. Just call around or check the yellow pages and go to one that is not in too much of a seedy part of town. :-P
It turns out that a friend of mine's father used to work for the Smithsonian and knows all about taking care of old stuff like this. He's going to look at the dress over Memorial Day weekend for me. Yay! At least the dress is out of the hatbox now.
