Those Pesky Grass Stains

So I've gotten a little distracted from writing at the moment, because I've decided I need a playlist for my story. I often burn CDs for stories, but I haven't bought enough new music lately, and things are starting to all sound the same.

For this story, I decided that my six integral characters each needed a vocal theme song and an instrumental theme song. Figuring that out is a little harder than just picking songs that kind of go along with the story. So far I've got three. John's theme song is "Uninvited," by Alanis Morrisette. It's just so HIM, even though it's not his kind of music. Michelle's is Shawn Mullins' "Shimmer" because she literally starts glowing when she gets emotional. Hereward's (yes, everyone give a shout out to the coolest name ever! Hereward!) is, I think, John Mayer's "My Stupid Mouth."

I have this character who hasn't appeared on the scene yet, and he's a jerk. An arrogant guy with absolutely no tact whatsoever. He's going to be loads of fun to write about. I thought of the perfect song for him, but I have no idea how to find it.

Back when I was still doing poetry readings, I went to Jimbo's, a blues club/coffee house/karaoke joint that no longer exists. On an open-mike night, these two college guys got up there with their guitars and sang this most hilarious song they'd written called "Grass Stains on My Butt." It's such a good song for David because it's all about a guy who wishes he wasn't so spectacularly good-looking because all the adoration is such a hassle. The chorus goes, "Grass stains on my butt, grass stains on my butt, I wish that I was fat and I had grass stains on my butt."

Awesome, right?

But how in the world am I supposed to find it? I'm hoping I can track it down somehow through the internet. Ah, the lovely internet. Procrastination station of my dreams . . .
